Most delays aren't caused by big problems. They're caused by small inconsistencies. Here's what we see most.
1. Names that don't match
Your legal name, assumed name, sign, bond and application should agree exactly. One missing "LLC" can trigger a deficiency.
2. Bond errors
TxDMV's licensing guide has a whole section on surety bond errors. Check names, addresses and dates carefully.
3. Signing a lease too early
Before signing, confirm the property has a proper office, room for a compliant sign, display space for retail, local zoning approval, and a lease term at least as long as the license term.
4. Skipping pre-licensing education
New independent motor vehicle applicants generally must upload proof of the TxDMV-approved course.
5. Incomplete history answers
Questions about licensing history, disciplinary actions, judgments and liens must be answered completely. Leaving something out can create bigger problems than the item itself.
6. Paying from the wrong account
TxDMV's checklist says payment must come from an account held by the applicant, the applicant's attorney, or CPA.
7. Slow deficiency responses
Watch your email and respond carefully. If you don't understand what's being asked, get help before you answer.
