Specialty Dealer Licenses

Specialty Dealer Licensing Doesn't Have to Be Complicated.

Not every dealership sells cars. If your business focuses on another vehicle type, Texas has separate GDN categories, and choosing the right one matters.

The basics

What this license involves

TxDMV's licensing guide lists several independent GDN types beyond the standard motor vehicle license, including motorcycle, travel trailer, trailer/semi-trailer, and mobility motor vehicle dealer licenses.

Each license covers the type of vehicle for which it's issued. Requirements overlap with a standard dealer license in many ways, but they are not identical, and some categories have their own rules.

During your consultation we'll talk through which category matches your business and whether we're the right fit to help with it. We'll tell you plainly if a category falls outside what we support.

Why get help

The benefits of professional guidance

Pick the right category

Avoid applying for a license that doesn't cover the vehicles you actually plan to sell.

Category-specific preparation

We look at the requirements for your vehicle type rather than assuming they match a car lot.

Honest scoping

If your category is outside our wheelhouse, we'll tell you.

Watch out for

Common mistakes and challenges

Assuming one license covers everything

A GDN covers the vehicle type it's issued for. Selling multiple types may require more than one.

Display and location differences

Display requirements refer to vehicles of the type in the application, which affects lot planning.
